Rosie To The Rescue

It was a busy day on the Island of Sodor, all the engines were busy with their work, tooting their whistles in greeting whenever they passed one another.
Rosie was in the yard shunting trucks, she was always happy to help a friend, but she was also a young engine and can be easily tricked.
Diesel, being the devious diesel he is, took full advantage of that as he rolled smoothly over to her "Why hello Rosie" he greeted smoothly.
"Oh, hi Diesel" Rosie replied cheerfully "why are you here?"
Diesel pretended to look sad "Oh Rosie, I overheard the other engines talking about you" he replied, he was very convincing and knew Rosie would fall for it.
Rosie frowned a little "You did?" she asked.
"Oh yes...they said they didn't like you" Diesel replied and sighed sadly.
Rosie looked hurt "But...But why?" she asked.
"I wish I knew" Diesel replied as he looked sad.
Rosie looked down, why did the other engines not like her? She just couldn't understand it "Oh..." was all she said as a response before she puffed away.
Diesel smirked after she had gone and snickered "Oh Rosie, such a young engine and easily tricked" he said before he rolled out of the yard snickering to himself.

Emily pulled into Welsworth station, she had just done the last of her deliveries of coal for the coal bunkers, she saw Rosie in a siding and frowned. The two were like sisters, Emily always looked out for her and vise-versa, once she was uncoupled she puffed over to Rosie "Rosie? What's the matter?" she asked.
Rosie looked at her and sniffed "D-Diesel told me that none of the other engines like me...is it true?" she asked.
"Of course it's not true, that Diesel is devious and plays tricks on everyone" Emily replied softly "don't believe everything he says, c'mon let me prove to you that the others do like you"
"O-Ok Emily" Rosie replied quietly and followed her.

They arrived at Knapford station where Gordon and James were with their passenger trains "Hello Emily" James greeted.
"Hello James, Gordon" Emily replied "I want to ask you something?"
"Can it wait? We have passenger trains to pull" Gordon replied "and the express can't be late"
Emily rolled her eyes "It won't take long" she replied "I want to know what you two think of Rosie"
James snorted "Rosie? That branch line engine? Ha! She couldn't pull a main line train" he replied.
"She does not belong on the main line, she is a branch line engine" Gordon added "she wouldn't be able to pull the express as fast or as efficent as me"
Rosie felt just as bad as she did before after hearing those comments.
Emily was cross "She is a useful engine and a good friend" she replied sternly.
James snorted "Whatever you say Emily" he replied.
Emily whished steam angrily "Come on Rosie, we don't need to hear this" she said.
"Uh huh..." was all Rosie murmured as a response as they puffed away.

Thomas was dropping off passengers with Annie and Clarabel when he saw Emily and Rosie arrive "Hello Emily, hello Rosie" he greeted with a smile.
"Hi Thomas" Rosie replied sadly.
Thomas was concerned "What's the matter Rosie?" he asked.
"Diesel told me no one likes me..." Rosie replied quietly.
"And Gordon and James didn't help the situation" Emily added.
"Huh, they're just big headed so take no notice of them Rosie, but you are a great asset to the branch line and are always happy to help" Thomas replied with a smile "you're a good friend"
Rosie smiled a little, she felt a little better but she did still have her doubts.

Later that day Emily was making another delivery and her route would take her to Gordon's Hill "Now you trucks better not give me any trouble" she said sternly to the trucks.
The trucks just giggled in their silly way.
Emily rolled her eyes as she approached Gordon's Hill and started to puff up it, at first things were going smoothly and she thought she would get over the hill without any problems, but just as she was starting to go down the other side there was a loud 'CRACK' and she found her breaks would not work "Oh no! My breaks have failed!" she exclaimed as she went faster and faster down the hill "HELP!" she cried as she closed her eyes tight as the corner was fast approaching, she took the corner much too fast and was soon off the rails.
The trucks all crashed into one another and it left a big mess, it was lucky that no one was seriously injured.
The guard phoned for help.

Rosie was the only engine available to help, she was worried about Emily as she hurried to her rescue with Rocky.
When she arrived she was uncoupled from Rocky who got to work on clearing up the mess.
Soon Emily was back on the rails again "Oh thank you Rosie, you too Rocky" she said with a smile.
"No problem Emily, I'm just glad you're ok, I'll shunt you to the Steamworks" Rosie replied with a smile and was coupled up to Emily, she blew her whistle and puffed to the steamworks whilst Donald and Douglas took Rocky back to the Sodor Search and Rescue Centre.

When Rosie arrived at the Steamworks with Emily Victor was waiting for them "Hello my friends" he greeted.
"Hello Victor, Emily has been in an accident" Rosie replied.
"My breaks failed and I couldn't do anything to stop" Emily explained.
"Do not worry Emily, we will have you puffing in no time" Victor replied with a smile.
Then the Fat Controller arrived "Rosie, you did a grand job rescuing Emily" he said with a smile.
Rosie blushed a little but smiled "Th-Thank you sir" she replied.
"Emily will have her breaks repaired, and you Rosie will have a new coat of paint as a reward" the Fat Controller said with a smile "you are a really useful engine"
Rosie smiled and tooted her whistle in delight "Oh thank you sir!" she replied, her earlier doubts about the others liking her were now gone, she knew that she was liked and was a useful engine.
